What I am looking for in students

What gives me greatest joy in teaching is to dive deeply into the music with my students, beyond the printed page and into colors, sensations, and sounds of the music, savoring all the musicality we can discover. I am best able to do this with intermediate to advanced students. I love working with ALL my students. Throughout the years, they become like my own children, as I witness them growing in music and life. And I learn from all of them!

I want to coach piano students who:

Are serious about learning music at the piano
Practice 30 min – 1 hour daily and consistently prepare well for lessons
Are ready and willing to dive deep with me into all that the music has to offer
Want to listen deeply at the piano, learn about focus and performance practice
Desire to develop technically, learning to use their playing mechanism wisely

About our work together

Through a love of sound, I empower students to discover a deeper sense of who they are. I help them unlock their focus, attain a calm within, develop full-body awareness and coordination at the piano as well as a deeper connection to their body, mind and true self. This is powerful work that translates into everyday life as students learn to feel more at ease, confident, happy in their bodies and peaceful within. Outside of our sessions, this may result in better behavior, mindfulness, improved grades and greater belief in themselves.

For the younger ones, coaching with me provides skill sets that last a lifetime. In addition to developing a love of music, your child will:

discover attention, focus, a quiet mind
learn to coordinate their eyes, hearing and touch – all of which will transform how they feel about themselves.
be able to explore music (and life) in a whole new way.

For the intermediate/advanced or mature students who are looking for a deeper connection to music:

I can bridge your love of music with a greater understanding of self, and along the way help you to play from a deep, soulful space
Your music-making will reach another level completely as you play with more knowledge, and expanded confidence and skill
You will learn to understand yourself more clearly, and soulfully express yourself through music

Sessions with me strengthen each student’s ability to confidently and comfortably play music from the Soul. Each year, we look forward to sharing our music as well as our new, empowered sense of self at our annual concert in June. Students are always delighted with what they are able to accomplish in performance and they begin to see themselves in a whole new way.

Who am I?

I am a concert pianist and sound healer who has the ability to empower others to understand music and themselves deeply, bringing people on a journey of self-discovery through music.

I taught piano students for 18 years in Manhattan – beginners to advanced, children and adults. I’ve performed in Carnegie Hall, accompanied vocalists and instrumentalists, recorded new works, and made a life teaching piano. After teaching for seven years in the Bay Area, I am relocating to the midwest. I’d love to add to my family of piano students here in Barrington.

Bachelors of Music Degree in Piano Performance – Northwestern University
